KUCHING, July 23: Political pundit Dato Peter Minos asserts that the responsibility lies with those in Peninsular Malaysia for not embracing the English language, labeling them as “jagoh kampong” (local champions).

In a statement today, Minos emphasised that Sarawak is determined to master English, and no one can impede this progress.

“Our Sarawak Premier has clearly stated that we need English to move ahead with the rest of the advancing and progressing world. All aspects of modern progress need it,” Minos declared.

Minos also highlighted the critical role of English, particularly in modern science and technology.

He was commenting on and supporting the use of English by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during an episode of the ‘Keluar Sekejap’ podcast hosted by Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.

“There is no escape. Not knowing written and spoken English is like a blind man groping around not knowing anything,” Minos further opined.

He stressed that English has become a global language of knowledge, information, and all facets of life.

Minos pointed out that Sarawak has natural resources and hardworking people willing to excel, making English crucial for progress and prosperity.

He added that there is no way to avoid English as new industries and applications are adopted and learned in English.

“Now that Sarawak is focusing on learning English, Sarawak has a future. She will soar ahead and will be a beacon of hope for Malaysia,” he concluded. — DayakDaily
