SIBU (July 5): SJK Thian Chin, SMK Tung Hua and Hwai Ang Methodist Church recently had their facilities upgraded with funds from the Sibu parliamentary constituency’s ‘Program Mesra Rakyat’ (PMR).
Sibu MP Oscar Ling said the upgrading works for the schools and church included installation of new equipment and school hardware facilities.
For SJK Thian Chin, he said the allocation from PMR was used to buy 35 sets of computers for a computer room so teachers can utilise the digital facilities in providing education.
He emphasised that technology is an important and key teaching method in today’s education.
“The computer room here has become the best place for teachers to share their knowledge and for students to embark on the new technological era.
“The best way in cultivating children to become the pillars of the country in the future is through education, and digital teaching is a major trend in this era.”
For SMK Tung Hua, he said the PMR funds were used to build an iron staircase in front of the school, providing convenience to students when crossing the road.
“The funds will also be used to build drain covers for the safety of students when using the iron staircase,” he added.
In concurring with the suggestion from the school teachers, he also called on the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and the Public Works Department (JKR) to install warning lights in front of the school to alert car owners in order to ensure the safety of students passing by.
For Hwai Ang Methodist Church, he said the allocation was used to build rain covers in front of the church so churchgoers and worshippers could stay dry on rainy days.
“These basic hardware facilities are important for the people to participate in worship at the church,” he said.
