KOTA KINABALU (July 26): The Sabah esports team are aiming for at least one gold medal at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak, scheduled to take place from Aug 17 to 24.
Team manager Mohd Sofihizar Usrah said that the team are also targeting two silver and two bronze medals in the esports competition.
He noted that there are seven categories offering a total of 21 medals in esports at this year’s Sukma, and he is confident that the team can achieve the set targets.
“Although this is the first time the Sabah esports team is participating in Sukma, I believe we can meet our goals based on the performance of the participants we are sending,” he told Bernama.
He said 12 participants will represent Sabah in the events – six for Mobile Legends Bang Bang, two for E-Racing, two for eFootball, and two for Tekken 8.
“All participants are in ‘tiptop’ condition, and the management usually schedules frequent training sessions with the best coaches and players in Sabah.
“All the time is focused on this tournament. The participants also join various competitions as part of their preparation for Sukma,” he said.
Mohd Sofihizar hopes that the team receives all the necessary support from fans and supporters of electronic sports in Sabah to bring home success for the Land Below the Wind. – Bernama
