KUCHING (Feb 15): Seven men were detained for illegal gambling at a shop house in Engkilili on Saturday.

The Lubok Antu district police headquarters in a statement said the suspects, aged between 18 and 48, were playing ‘holo’ when police personnel stormed the two-storey premises.

“Among the items seized from the suspects were gambling-related paraphernalia and a sum of cash,” it said.

The Op Limau/Dadu raid was conducted following a tip-off received by police.

Three of the suspects were found to have prior criminal records related to drugs and other offences.

However, all seven were tested negative for drug use.

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, upon conviction.
