KUCHING (Aug 6): Two attendees of this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) brought home a Mitsubishi Triton 4×4 VGT AT Premium and the Ebixon Bold EV Bike as prizes for its Skill Contest.

The lucky winners are Edwin Francis from Kuala Lumpur, who won the 4WD; and Muhammad Farihiin Abdul Latif from Selangor, who won the EV bike.

It is learnt that Edwin attended the festival for the first time, while Farihiin was a returning attendee.

The prizes were presented by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor during a ceremony held at Plaza Aurora here today.

All they had to do was to submit their RWMF 2024 e-ticket number, provide personal details, and answer two questions: identifying the festival’s anniversary year and explaining in 20 words why they like the Rainforest World Music Festival.

Edwin’s winning slogan was: “I like the Rainforest World Music Festival because it’s a magical convergence of music, nature, and diversity, creating unforgettable experiences and connections.”

Farihiin came up with the slogan: “I like the Rainforest World Music Festival because it unites diverse cultures, champions sustainability, and showcases mesmerising global busical traditions in a captivating celebration.”

Speaking at the event, Sharzede expressed her gratitude to all the sponsors of the contest, adding that this year’s RWMF garnered about 26,000 festival goers, an increase of about 35 per cent from last year’s edition.

As such, she said the festival is on the right track as it is gaining more interest from festival goers.

“I know one of the winners was a first-timer, the second winner has been here 10 years ago; it is fantastic that they have won.

“For this contest, we’ve received numerous entries, and we have to go through an arduous process and we have to shortlist to 500 entries – these two winners are among the 500 shortlisted entries.

“And then, we needed to funnel them further to see the exact kind of expression that we want to see because their words may be used in our future themes,” she added.

Meanwhile, Sharzede confirmed that next year’s edition of RWMF will take place from June 20-22 with the theme ‘Connection.

As such, she called on festival-goers to ‘watch out for next year’.

Present at the event were Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia senior vice president Sarah Choo and MyUS Autotech sales and operations manager Tracey Edwina Hughes.
