KUCHING, June 23: The Weight Restriction Order (WRO) involving Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) routes that will pass through federal roads in Sarawak were among the key issues discussed during a meeting with the Sarawak Ministry of Transport (MOTS), chaired by Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, on Monday (June 22) at his ministry’s office in Kuala Lumpur.

In a Facebook post, he said that the meeting also discussed ART alignments that traverse federal road corridors in Sarawak to ensure that technical coordination, safety measures, and traffic flow management can be implemented effectively.

The meeting further examined the design of road signage that will be used when the ART system begins operations, including aspects related to safety, standardisation, and road user comprehension.

In addition, the ART team presented simulations of ART vehicle movements through signalised intersections on State roads for information-sharing and joint review.

“The smooth flow of the people’s daily commute, road user safety, and the development of a more modern public transportation system remain priorities in every aspect of the nation’s infrastructure planning, including in Sarawak.

“I greatly appreciate the discussions, which reflect the close cooperation between the private sector and the Sarawak and federal governments.

“Such coordination is essential to ensure that every infrastructure development truly benefits the people, whether they are road users, public transport passengers, local communities, or participants in the broader economy,” said Nanta, who is also Kapit MP. — DayakDaily
