MIRI: Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang has assured residents that the ongoing upgrading and maintenance works at Taman Awam Miri are expected to be completed before Christmas this year.
Speaking on Wednesday (Aug 7), Yii provided an update on the progress of the park’s maintenance, acknowledging the public’s frustration over its temporary closure.
“The main issue has been the suspension bridge, which has not been maintained for quite some time.
“We have finally arranged a budget of RM500,000 from the council’s internal fund to address the suspension bridge and other aspects of Taman Awam Miri,” he explained.
He noted that the suspension bridge has been barricaded while the work is ongoing, which is estimated to take about four months.
“This has caused inconvenience to the public, and for that, the Miri City Council (MCC) apologises.”
Yii urged the public to be patient as the council works to upgrade the facility.
“We also ran out of patience waiting for the funding, but we hope that after the maintenance works are completed, the public can start to enjoy better facilities at Taman Awam Miri.”
The upgrading of Taman Awam Miri is part of the efforts to improve the park in conjunction with Miri City’s 20th anniversary in 2025.
