KUCHING (July 24): Yayasan Sarawak is giving its assurance that students, who have successfully entered institutions of higher learning (IPTs) under its umbrella and met all the prerequisites, would receive sponsorships.

According to Yayasan Sarawak director Mersal Abang Rosli, this would be among the benefits being made available to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) holders attending the Sarawak Education Expo this July 27.

“If they successfully enter any institution under Yayasan Sarawak, we would ensure that they get sponsorship – on the condition that they obtained credit for Bahasa Melayu in the SPM examination.

“Any student whose family’s income per capita is below RM1,500, we will also help the student get the a one-off assistance of RM1,000 for admission into the IPT,” he said in a press conference on Sarawak Education Expo 2024, at the Yayasan Sarawak auditorium here yesterday.

Adding on, Mersal said the students would receive advice and consultations on courses and other related interests that would match their qualifications.

“They will also have the opportunity to register directly to the September admission, in addition to being able to follow the English Enhancement Programme (EEP) at Yayasan Sarawak’s IPT for one month – for free.

“That means the fees and accommodation of the eligible student are fully funded by Yayasan Sarawak, along with pocket money of RM300.”

Moreover, Mersal said the eligible students could also be considered for the BP40 Bursary Assistance Scheme.

“This scheme is open to Bumiputera students, where each could receive an 80 per cent tuition fee subsidy from Yayasan Sarawak and our universities.

“Meanwhile at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), this scheme is not only open to Bumiputeras, but also to the non-Bumiputeras from B40 (low-income) households,” he added.

Mersal said those interested in skills-based courses and having succeeded in entering the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) and skills IPTs under the Yayasan Sarawak panel, would also get the opportunity to gain the sponsorship.

“Each eligible student would also receive assistance of RM1,000 for admission to skills-based institutions in Sarawak, and RM1,500 for admission to those outside Sarawak – all on one-off basis.

The students also have the opportunity to get 50 percent ofloan repayment discount on the total loan received should they successfully complete their respective skills courses,” he said.

Later at the event, Yayasan Sarawak announced the channelling of RM675,000 in total allocations to 45 district offices throughout Sarawak, in facilitating them to hold respective Sarawak Education Expo successfully.
