KUCHING (July 24): Yayasan Sarawak will organise the Sarawak Education Expo 2024, which will take place simultaneously in all districts involving 43 locations across the state on July 27.

According to director Mersal Abang Rosli, the expo aims to provide Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) graduates a foundation of the educational opportunities offered at institutions under Yayasan Sarawak.

He said the 32,588 students registered for last year’s SPM examination in Sarawak are currently waiting for an offer letter to continue their studies at higher learning institutions (IPT).

“The same goes for 2023 STPM graduates, whose results will be announced today (July 23).

“Hence, we are taking proactive steps by organising such expos to spread information about educational opportunities in Sarawak to students, especially institutions under the management of the state government or Yayasan Sarawak,” he said at a press conference held at a Yayasan Sarawak auditorium here yesterday.

Mersal added the initiative enables SPM and STPM graduates to further their studies through both academic- and skill-based courses.

He also said it provides counselling and guidance services to help students make the right career choices that suit their respective qualifications.

“Having received their examination results, visitors can also register to get entry into the institutions that are being offered at this expo.

“This expo is the best platform for them to get the latest educational information and help them make the best decisions,” he said.

Adding on, Mersal said the expo will be launched by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at i-CATS University College here, which will be witnessed by all districts online.

“The launch at the district-level will take place simultaneously immediately after the launch by Abang Johari.

“At the district-level, there will be exhibitions, counselling sessions and guidance by institutions involved to help visitors in the admission and registration processes to the IPT.

“There will also be a presentation of school uniforms and a distribution of Hadiah Cemerlang Yayasan Sarawak worth RM500 to 1,504 students who successfully demonstrated excellence in their 2023 SPM,” he explained.

Sarawak Education Expo 2024 is held in collaboration with Yayasan Sarawak’s strategic partners, namely the Resident and District Offices throughout Sarawak and the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS).

Among the institutions participating in the expo are Swinburne University of Technology, University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University, i-CATS University College, Laila Taib College and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs)
