KUCHING (Aug 7): A cultural and arts troupe from Yunnan province in China captivated the crowd with their colourful, energetic dances and songs at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) garden floating stage last night.
The performance by the 21-strong troupe was in connection with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China as well as Kuching Festival Fair.
The 90-minute performance featured an opening dance titled ‘Flowers Blooming in Yunnan’, followed by other numbers including ‘Terraces on the Clouds’, ‘Water Charm’, ‘Torches of the Torch Festival’, and ‘Stepping on the Clouds’.
As part of the ongoing Kuching Festival Fair, MBKS’ international friendship cities, including from China, have been invited to perform.
Festivalgoers can attend the performances for free.
Among those present last night were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Chinese Consul General in Kuching Xing Weiping, Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai, Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations president Datuk Richard Wee, Yunnan Provincial Cultural and Tourism Department director Chen SenQuan, and Kuching Festival 2024 organising chairman Mok Chuang Ping.
