23 foreigners nabbed in raids on eateries

KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 23 individuals of various foreign nationalities on Tuesday (July 30).

Acting on public complaints and intelligence, two surprise inspections were conducted at two eateries located around Jalan Setia Raja area.

During the operation, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Unit examined a total of 30 individuals for their documentation and of these, 23 were taken into custody.

The foreign detainees, comprising 13 men and 10 women, were found to be overstaying, lacking valid travel documents and lacking valid permits to stay in Malaysia.

They are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The public is encouraged to report any information on the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
