KUCHING: All Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) members have been called to embrace digital transformation opportunities and work towards transforming the Sarawak government into a model of digital excellence by 2030.

Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee said this during a one-day Sarawak Civil Service Heads of Departments Session with Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki as part of the Sarawak Government Digital Week 2024.

The event, organised by the Sarawak Civil Service Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) with the theme ‘Towards 100% Online Government Services: Vision 2030’, marked a significant milestone in the SCS journey towards digitalisation.

Five speakers representing the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Huawei Government Public Services Digitalisation Business Unit from Shenzhen, Accenture Singapore, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia, presented papers aimed at enhancing the understanding and commitment of head of departments (HODs) towards the digital transformation goals.

“These presentations will enhance the understanding and commitment of HODs towards the Digital Transformation Goals, emphasising the importance of governance, data utilisation, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and comprehensive digital transformation in achieving our Vision 2030.

“The event also conducted concurrent training sessions for civil servants on Data Cataloguing, AI Essentials, and Cybersecurity Fundamentals.

“These sessions are designed to equip our civil servants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively navigate and contribute to our journey for digital transformation,” Hii said during the event today (Aug 1).

Also present were Sarawak State Attorney-General Datuk Saferi Ali, Sarawak State Financial Secretary Datuk Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik, and SCSDU director Grace Huong Siew Hung.

Some 180 SCS HODs from ministries, departments, statutory bodies, residents and district offices, and local councils attended the event.

Meanwhile, Hii added that as part of the Sarawak Government Digital Week 2024, several events will take place from Aug 2 until 4, including a Sarawak ID promotional programme at Plaza Merdeka Mall with various government agencies showcasing their online services.

“It is an excellent opportunity for the public to learn more about the Sarawak ID initiative and how it simplifies access to multiple government services online,” he said.
