Fire destroys old barrack quarters in Sarikei, damages 3 others

SIBU (July 29): A fire razed a row of old private barrack quarters at Kampung Selalang, Sarikei today.

According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, the unoccupied wooden structure comprised of eight doors was completely destroyed.

“A total of four barrack quarters were affected, with one completely destroyed while three others were damaged.

“No casualties or injuries were reported,” he said.

The fire was brought under control at 4.57pm and after ensuring no remaining sources of fire could reignite, the operation ended at 6pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Andy said.
