SARATOK: Residents of Kampung Kupang can now breathe a sigh of relief after their Village Development and Security Committee’s (JKKK) application for bottled drinking water was approved by the government.
Yesterday, 85 homes, involving 632 residents in Kampung Kupang Hilir, received donations of bottled drinking water.
The aid was channelled through the Social Welfare Department by the Saratok District Disaster Management Committee.
Kampung Kupang Hilir head Jepri Johari expressed his gratitude for the swift action of the representatives and the Saratok District Disaster Management Committee in providing immediate assistance.
“Alhamdulillah, the application was submitted last Thursday and Friday, and the distribution was carried out today (Monday).
“This assistance is a great relief for the residents, as the current tap water situation is unsatisfactory, compounded by the dry season,” he told Suara Sarawak.
He also expressed appreciation to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) for sending a supply of tank water last week.
Penghulu Missis Aris thanked Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri and Saratok District officer Muhammad Dino Amid for their support in addressing the residents’ needs.
He also reminded residents to avoid open burning during the dry season and to take precautions for their health.
“Please reduce outdoor activities and watch over the children, as the extreme heat can lead to heat stroke,” he advised.
Distribution of bottled water to residents in Kampung Kupang Hulu (460 boxes) and Kupang Tengah (1,054 boxes) is scheduled for this Wednesday.
Additionally, 174 boxes of bottled water were distributed to residents of Rumah Panjang Andrew Kulih, Jenggara Asal, Sungai Ara, yesterday.
