KUCHING, July 12: Simunjan’s long-awaited New Township, featuring a new wet market and commercial premises is expected to begin operations by September or October, marking a significant boost to local business activity and public amenities.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee said the project, undertaken by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) is nearing completion and forms part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in Simunjan.
“The project is almost complete and is expected to start operating around September or October this year,” she said when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Zon 2 Simunjan Community Carnival at the Simunjan Mini Stadium today.
On another development project, Rodiyah said plans to build an indoor sports complex are facing slight delays due to land ownership issues.
She said discussions are ongoing with the landowners and relevant government agencies to secure approval for the site so that construction can proceed as soon as possible.
“We will continue working closely with Sarawak government agencies to ensure the project can be implemented once the landowners’ consent has been obtained,” she said.
Rodiyah also urged residents to take good care of public facilities at the Simunjan Mini Stadium to ensure they remain in good condition for future community programmes and sporting events.
Meanwhile, she noted that this year’s Zon 2 Simunjan Community Carnival marked a first by incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) in producing its official theme song and music.
She said the AI-generated theme song, created by local talent in collaboration with Ukas Samarahan Division, demonstrated that rural communities are equally capable of embracing digital innovation in organising community programmes.
According to her, the quality of the Community Carnival has continued to improve from one zone to another, with the use of AI adding a distinctive identity while showcasing the creativity of local talents. — DayakDaily
