ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING (Aug 1): The iconic Cat Monument at Jalan Padungan here is now wearing a scarf to mark World Scout Scarf Day.
A press release said the statue was adorned with a scout scarf to symbolise the values of loyalty, service, and camaraderie that are central to the scout ethos.
Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, who officiated at the scarf wearing ceremony today, praised scouts for their dedication to community service and leadership development.
As the event coincided with the Kuching City Day celebration, he invited scouts to organise activities in collaboration with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) for a greater impact on the celebration.
Wee also called on scouts to don the scarf on the Cat Monument every Aug 1.
“World Scout Scarf Day is not just a celebration; it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to the principles of scouting. It reminds us of the global brotherhood that transcends borders and cultures, united under the common values of the scout law and promise,” he added.
The event attended by scouts, leaders, and members of the public, all donning their scarves as a symbol of their scouting identity, included a moment of silence and reflection, paying tribute to founders of the scouting movement and celebrating the achievements of scouts worldwide.
Sarawak chief scout commissioner Capt Zainuddin Hamdan said all scouts at district levels also observed World Scout Scarf Day by wearing scarves in school or their workplaces.
World Scout Scarf Day is celebrated on Aug 1 every year.
