BALINGIAN: A total of RM9mil has been allocated to upgrade the Balingian Stadium, including the construction of new pavilions, field maintenance and the installation of top-class track.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the stadium is upgraded for the convenience of folk in the area.
“This stadium has been built for a long time but due to some damage involving the grandstand, we had to rebuild a new one after the old one was demolished for safety purposes.
“As the elected representative, I applied for allocation to upgrade this stadium, which consists of a pavilion, field and a track that is ‘World Athlete Standard’ Class 2.
“With the completion of work, schools around Balingian can use this stadium for their sporting activities,” he said after attending the site handover ceremony here today.
Earlier, he inspected the state of the completed stadium except for the field, which is still under maintenance.
The handover of the completed project site was done by the contractor, HAV-Innovative Technology Sdn Bhd, to the Public Works Department (JKR) of Mukah Division as the implementing agency.
After that, the JKR handed over to the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), who will be responsible for looking after and managing the stadium.
In light of this, Abdul Yakub said that the application to build a closed stadium has also been sent to the Rajang Delta Development Agency (Radda) where the stadium will have a multipurpose concept that will allow various sports events or other programmes be held.
