KUCHING, July 13: Sarawak is set to become the first in Malaysia to develop its own anti-corruption strategy through the Sarawak Anti-Corruption Strategy (SACS), says Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya.

In a TVS news report, he said the development of SACS is timely to ensure Sarawak’s economic progress is supported by a strong, transparent, and accountable governance system.

“Economic progress without a strong foundation of integrity will increase the risk of leakages, abuse of power, and corruption, which will ultimately undermine the confidence of the people, investors and strategic partners,” he said when officiating an engagement session with agencies for the development of SACS here today.

At the same time, he clarified that the strategy is intended to complement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) 2024–2028 while taking into account Sarawak’s governance landscape, institutional framework, and development priorities.

“This strategy is more than just a policy document. It is a collective commitment to ensure that every ringgit of public funds is managed with integrity, every decision is made transparently, and every development project delivers real benefits to the people,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (Unions) director Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman and National Programme Officer at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vickram Ragunath. — DayakDaily
