KUCHING, July 13: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak Datuk Snowdan Lawan has urged young talents in Sarawak to chase their dreams and grab opportunities as it arises—much like what young Sarawakian vocalist Taylor Louise did.

Commenting on her recent win at the New York International Golden Classical Music Awards 2026, he said Taylor had demonstrated that Sarawakians have the talent to excel on the global stage when given the opportunity.

“Taylor shows us that our dreams can come true if we believe in ourselves and persevere in order to achieve our objectives. At the young age of 12, this is not only a great but also a prestigious achievement.

“On behalf of our ministry, I would like to congratulate Taylor, her parents, her vocal coach, and her family for this achievement. She is proudly bringing that glory to our State of Sarawak and our country, Malaysia.

“For young talents out there, the avenues are always open to chase your dreams. Grab it when opportunities appear. Taylor did it,” he said.

The competition, which took place at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York, saw Taylor going home with First Prize and the Excellent Young Talent Special Prize in the 10–12-year-old Vocal category.

As Malaysia’s sole representative at the New York International Golden Classical Music Awards, she went head-to-head with young musicians and performers from countries including the United States, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong, Brazil, India, China, Ukraine, Costa Rica, Israel, France, Russia, Taiwan, Croatia, Türkiye, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, Indonesia, and Australia. — DayakDaily
