SRI AMAN: A 33-year-old woman was killed while two others sustained injuries following a collision between a car and a lorry near the Lubok Antu junction today.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said it received a distress all regarding an accident along the Pan Borneo Highway near the Lubok Antu junction at 1:35 pm.
A team from Betong fire station was mobilised to the accident scene located 28 kilometres away.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that the accident involved a sedan and a lorry travelling from Betong towards Sri Aman.
“The female passenger in the front seat of the sedan was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters used specialised rescue tools to extricate the victim,” it said.
However, the victim, identified as Amelia Cornellius Ahkim, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Her remains were handed over to the police for further action.
The driver of the sedan sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital by the Civil Defence Force (APM) prior to the arrival of the firefighters.
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old lorry driver escaped unharmed, but his attendant suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
The operations were concluded at 3:30 pm after the area was deemed safe.
