Yummy Burger Bar owner Owen Wen preparing burgers at his grill station in Ted Shin Cafe, Siburan.By Wilfred Pilo
As the sun sets over the small town of Siburan, the aroma of sizzling burger patties and melting cheese draws hungry customers to Yummy Burger Bar at Ted Shin Cafe.
For many locals, an evening is not complete without one of Owen Wen’s juicy homemade burgers.
Since launching the business in 2021 after the Movement Control Order (MCO), the 39-year-old entrepreneur has built a loyal following by serving burgers made with fresh ingredients, homemade patties, and plenty of care.
Before venturing into the burger business, Owen spent 18 years in the bakery industry, beginning in 2004. The experience taught him discipline, food preparation, and the importance of quality, making his transition into burger-making a natural one.
Each day, after breakfast, Owen begins preparing his homemade patties, fresh vegetables, and signature sauces before opening for the evening crowd.
“My customers know the taste, and they know I prepare everything with care. Over the years, many of them have become my friends,” he told DayakDaily.
His signature pork burger is the shop’s bestseller. Filled with juicy pork, melted cheese, a runny egg yolk, and rich sauces, it has become a favourite among regulars.
Owen’s signature homemade pork burger, the stall’s bestselling item. The menu also features homemade chicken and beef burgers, Burger Pattaya, Ramly burgers, toast burgers, Benjo burgers, and hot dogs.
Priced between RM4 and RM11, the burgers remain affordable for families, students, and workers.
“Sometimes, I only charge RM3 for customers who I feel don’t have much money in their pockets. I just want to do what’s right for someone who’s hungry and craving one of my burgers,” he said.
Married with children who are also fans of his burgers, Owen said the business not only supports his family but also allows him to serve the community he loves.
A Tapah native of Hakka descent, he believes small-town businesses thrive because neighbours look out for one another.
“Siburan is a small town. We all know each other and support each other. That’s what keeps small businesses like mine going,” he said.
For Owen, every burger is more than just a meal—it is a way of bringing people together, one homemade burger at a time.
Yummy Burger Bar operates from Ted Shin Cafe in Siburan daily from 7pm to 11pm, except on Mondays.
